In keeping with the USEA and USEF policies to promote the domestic breeding of horses for Eventing, and in recognition of the benefits of competition-testing breeding stallions, a group of supporters have offered to endow an annual award to be given to the USEA-registered stallion that earns the most leaderboard points at Preliminary level and above. The USEA Board of Governors voted unanimously in December 2014 to approve this proposal.

At the 2014 USEA Annual Meeting of the Members, a by-law change was made to provide for the drawing of Area borders along state lines. In response to the concerns of the members living in western Pennsylvania, the Board of Governors has made a provision whereby those members may now declare which Area they would like to be assigned to for purposes of competitions, year-end awards and Championships.

For nearly a decade, Winsome Adante was the highest scoring event horse of all time in the United States with a whopping 1,355 points. Piloted by Kim Severson and owned by Linda Wachtmeister of Plain Dealing Farm, the Thoroughbred gelding (Saunter - Juswith Genoa) enjoyed an eight-year tenure at the top of the High Point Horse leaderboard after officially retiring in 2007. His illustrious career included three Rolex Kentucky CCI4* wins, a gold medal at the 2002 World Equestrian Games, and team bronze and individual silver medals at the 2004 Olympics.

In 1984, Bruce Davidson was awarded the Windy Acre Farm Trophy for Rider of the Year for the second year in a row, following a successful eventing season in 1983 on Pilot Kid, J.J. Babu, and Dr. Peaches. At that point in his career, he had won Burghley and the World Championships twice, and had been riding for the USET for over a decade. The award was made doubly special because a horse that he produced and rode up through the levels, Pilot Kid, was awarded Horse of the Year as well.

The Charles Owen Technical Merit Award was founded by the USEA Professional Horseman's Council. The hope is that this award will provide incentives for amateur riders who demonstrate safe and appropriate cross-country technique, and will also educate riders and trainers as to what constitutes safe riding across country.

This is an opportunity for the sport to recognize those horses and riders who excelled in eventing throughout the year. It is also an opportunity to recognize and honor the important people who have served the sport tirelessly both in a non-riding and riding capacity during their golden years. While it is simple matter of tabulating points earned in a competition to arrive at horse and rider awards, it is a very different proposition when it comes to the non-rider awards; these awards require nominations from our members.
