Taking place February 18-21, 2019, the USEA Educational Symposium has found a new home at the impressive Grand Oaks Resort in Wiersdale, Florida.

Andrea Baxter, owner and trainer at Twin Rivers Ranch in Paso Robles, California and member of the USEA Young Event Horse Committee, has been an avid participant in the USEA Young Event Horse (YEH) and Future Event Horse (FEH) classes from their inception. “I've been a longtime supporter of the program, not only as a committee member, but as a rider,” she said. “I've shown multiple horses each year in both the FEH/YEH programs that I have bred, bought for myself and for resale, and client’s horses.”

'Quality, quality, and more quality' could be heard from spectators at the 2018 USEA Young Event Horse (YEH) Championships. Year after year the YEH Championships bring out some of the country’s best 4- and 5-year-old horses. Familiar names like Tamra Smith, Tim Bourke, Dominic Schramm, Matthew Flynn, Doug Payne, Andrea Baxter, and Waylon Roberts continue to top the championship leaderboards with their horses. So, what is it about their rides or horses that earn them top scores?

The USEA Young Event Horse Championships showcase some of the best and brightest young eventing talent on four legs. But what about the two-legged competitors? Riders in the Young Event Horse classes tend to be adult professionals looking for a platform to expose their up-and-coming youngsters, helping them gain experience in a competitive atmosphere. It is much less common to see junior or young riders competing in these divisions.

Nine horses competed for the 2018 USEA Young Event Horse (YEH) West Coast Championship title today at the Fresno County Horse Park in Fresno, Calif. and it was the girls who prevailed. While only nine horses showed up to the West Coast YEH Championships compared to the 53 on the East Coast, Championship judges Sally Ike (USA), Lucinda Green (GBR), and Chris Ryan (IRL) stated they saw great talent on both coasts. The judges flew straight from the YEH East Coast Championships at Fair Hill International in Elkton, Md.
